It is in many ways genuinely comforting that John McCain is able to return this week for to lay down his trembling Vote. Senator McCain is without a doubt a far greater, more intelligent and wise American than any other living elected Republican. (Disclosure: This writer volunteered for McCain’s 1st POTUS run, though I refused to join any political party to do so.) By congressional standards he was once a decent man.
There is one aspect if his return that is not comforting: He will probably vote to protect my children from one of the most important things Jesus Christ, in actual real fact, told us we need to do for each other in order to please God.
Some will attack me for quick-jumping after the truly sad and earthshattering news of McCain’s illness has arrived. They can roll out the false negative premise which pretends that passive, anti-gun, anti-war, pro-science, non violent dissenting, hippie, science-based, anti-cancer Liberals are the real gun worshipping, war starting, illiterate ungodly hateful savages among us. Before doing so just remember these three pertinent facts:
1) Senator McCain has chosen to re enter The Fray and thus he deserves to be treated to the same criticism that any elected and actively voting official merits. It isn’t “hitting someone while they are down” if they are up and punching back. 2) His mental competency, as displayed by cognitive-verbal disjunction displayed at recent hearings and as scientifically questioned by the reality of his type of brain tumor diagnosis is an awkward but legitimate subject of concern. 3) The only way the GOP can now erase national healthcare access as policy in America is with the singular vote of a millionaire who can only get into the building because he has free, tax payer funded healthcare and insurance.
Now let’s just get back to Jesus, shall we?
You see, I believe Jesus was a real person. I strongly support using his moral dissent against police-state militarism and against wealth hoarding elitism as American policy guidance. However I do not even remotely believe that He had magical powers or was really the clay-crafted son of some kind of terror fisted ancient Godhead. He was just a guy who lived, kissed a lot of men’s inner thighs in the resistance movement, and then died a horrible tortuous death at the hands of the millionaire money worshipper’s unrestrained right wing police-state.
The rational world doesn’t need Ken Burns to see that Mrs. Christ’s little boy has lately been thrown through the front windshield and rumble-crushed under the drunk-driven terror of the Republican bus. And of course Congress has always existed as an asbestos padded asylum overflowing with male hookers, self pissing sin-to-win gerrymanderers, witlessly proud traitors and corporate bribe slurping human spittoons. But right now the Republicans by themselves and alone are entirely in the majority of all of it. It is this GOP , not their hated “fellow Americans” who actually won the Democracy part of the vote count last November, who are hell-bent on crucifying anyone foolish enough to publicly advocate for policy implementation of Christ’s most simple and obvious credo.
And never mind those pesky polls.
The boy prophet was lynched on the last day of 0 B.C.E. because he dissented publicly against an Empire that was destroying it’s own destiny by doing three things: Nationalizing the police-state protection of wealth hoarding and money-for-power corruption. Engaging in the largest-in-world-historical epoch of Military Socialism. Refusing to allow any public efforts or funding to provide basic shelter and healthcare to sick people.
Trump tweeters can blather all they want about how tough it is to accept that their unread opinion is not inherently wise on every issue under the sun, but the last point above is immutable. Jesus Christ died because he espoused healthcare, cost be damned.
Fast forward to today: It looks like 2017 might well become the last year of the A.C.E. or American Common Era. Our country’s stable existence as a Great Power is visibly rusting away under one party’s unchecked and unbalanced three branch tyranny.
Well, it just came through the aether: 51 - 50. Twenty minutes ago John McCain cast the deciding vote to make it America’s policy to put Jesus back on the cross. No actual legislation was even specified. Just a party line loyalty oath that said two things: The first was “ let’s nail Jesus Christ and everything he stood for back on a the cross”. The second, not that any of them actually understands the long view reality of what it means, was this:
sic transit gloria mundi.
