Let us raise a standard to which the wise and prudent can obtain. - George Washington
H.L. Mencken once said Democracy is based on the idea that America’s voters “know exactly what they want and they deserve to get it good and hard”.
It is becoming more difficult to argue the premise.
The dying ghost dance of the big Red-State Machine is so toad-smokingly bizarre at this point even the high priest pundits who were clone-hatched directly from Bill Buckley’s tail feathers are putting plywood on their windows and google-searching the Canadian long-term visa rules.
Wait, what? … Just as we start to speak here a new foray into ironic dumbassery is rolling in that buries the bar of excellence even lower. The quickscroll parse is this:
An anti-immigration lawsuit addict who trademarked his first name while attacking media honesty as the way to become leader of the “tort reform” party seems to have obviously committed full-bore plagiarism in his Russian mail-order bride’s convention speech.
The first call on Fox News reads like just another rape in Country Club America: “It is the female victim (Michelle Obama)’s fault.”
Overall, as their 2016 convention settles into an unchained roar of anarchy the Republican Party seems to be moving forward with a two pronged strategy.
First: A party wide continuance-of-denial ban against admitting any hint of reality about the volcanic disasters of economic collapse, partisan idolatry and globe-shattering (not to mention immigration crisis seeding) security failures still erupting from the Bush/Cheney years.
Second: Throw down a mindfuckingly brain-fouled refusal to acknowledge that they are 60 hours away from pawning the entire combined legacies of Ronald Reagan, Dwight D Eisenhower and Abraham Lincoln just to shill red hats on an infomercial hosted by Dorf on Golf.*
Alas, the time for reflection upon the terrible swift scythe that their previous dumb-on-purpose POTUS used to slash away any echo of America’s post WWII greatness has passed. Under President Obama Republican voters have enjoyed a long run of decidedly stable and economically triumphant years to study, reflect, perhaps admit a few failures and then recruit new sophisticated leadership to once again force-feed America their preferred mandate of Arcadian destiny. Instead every single one of them, by the millions and tens of millions, have used this entire seven year opportunity to pointedly do one thing: Campaign to get an exponentially less competent man than George W. Bush elected POTUS.
The core concepts of Donald Trump’s campaign, if indeed any common thread of intellectual form even exists (see note below)**, are as simple as they are simple-minded: Destroy all peace. Violate all Stability. Upset all order. Shame every salon that nurtures sophistication. Spit in the face of any achievable maturity. Replace all merit-based management with flat-out looting. And lastly of course monetize their investment in the rigging of American democracy to recharge the blown largess of a lone millionaire-born Trust-Fund Republican.
The GOP has long owned congress (still do) and yet refused to use that leverage for any forward reaching activities that might have genuinely served the nation. The average GOP voter currently hates the congress but refuses to link their own party’s dominance of congress and the supreme court with their virulent hatred of these same branches of government which they themselves control. (Remember a few minutes ago when we introduced the phrase “mindfuckingly brain fouled”.) It will always be President Obama’s Clinton’s fault that the GOP cannot bring themselves to engage in any fundamental activity that involves responsible governance.
The brutal truth of the Republican party’s convention message this week is that they have destroyed themselves and for this they hate America.
These new upsatrts are driving the clown car drunkenly. And they have strayed from the main street parade route. And they have fouled their own pantaloons. Yet they still offer themselves as the sober, fresh smelling, suit-and-tie alternative to radical destabilizing agents of chaos like Mitt Romney or Jeb Bush. Republicans would rather destroy America wholesale than vote for a moderate Democrat woman. They have doubled down on the Bush-era hubris in a manner that is about to terminate the age of Reagan Conservatism. Terminate with extreme prejudice. It ends here for your father’s GOP and maybe even for all of us. It ends here and It ends now. So take a little notice this week if you can stomach a glimpse into Upton Sinclair’s Butchery.
Because it won’t end well.
The Trump usurpation has grifted 200 years of treasure banked by moderate America’s bright destiny under God and wagered the whole snot-stained cash roll on a new investment grade product known as a Credibility Default Swap. The Republicans are about to dip the chalice of America’s actual greatness into a desperate sewer flume and force everyone to swallow deeply. All for no discernible intent other than to cause people who disagree with them a lot of pain.
They have done this before of course, on the left and on the right. But never has any political force successfully and intentionally doomed America’s stable greatness this effectively. This rapidly.
They are already destroying the marble temples and the steel-wheeled infrastructure of the greatest intellect and technology based enterprise since four and half billion years of Earth’s history started in that first paragraph of the only book they own. They are gleeful now, and dancing. You can see them in their finery. You can see them in their fop. There they are! Up on the big screen. See them pirouette on cowboy-toed fashion boots. The sparkles alone lad, and why not? They have chip-stoned an entire elapsed epoch of inclusive faith-driven destiny into trinkets and jeweled glass pieces of palatial baudeling gear.
“So what?” some will ask. Maybe they have replaced the deserved comfort of America’s revolutionary libertarianism with a Spittle and Daub Empiricism. Maybe they are tantrum-stomping a huge fracture into our once-vaunted terra firma and maybe they are violating the faithful heartbeats of our middle pillar with every indulgence of pride-swollen self-lust. But the fierce intensity of their wealth and rage draws the eye into a hypnotic allure.
Don’t it just draw the eye?
The entire world of humanity seems already at war to preserve or break down the last few stabilizing parapets of social order. It is all going to be hot, flat and crowded from here on out as the man once said. Meanwhile the only real congruence of the Trump GOP is to punish everyone but themselves for the sweltering unfairness found in Darwin’s teaming reaches. Further, they need us to assume that everything will be great again, not because in their perfect lack of experience or study they know how to govern but merely because they have seized control of the government.
Let’s be clear Peggy, this is not Morning in America. This is Last Call in Tijuana.

*I had hoped to come up with more than three post civil war “great” GOP leaders since and including Lincoln but there just flat-out aren’t any. I would have included Teddy Roosevelt if only he hadn't given the progressive movement both its name and its initial, uh, movement. Still, 3 out of 28 isn’t so bad. Is it?
** None does exist... Really. Seriously. There is no intellectual form or agency involved in a GOP that allows itself to be led by Donald Trump. No complex thought of any stripe rises in regard to any issue. At all. None. A complete intellectual vacuum. I am not exaggerating or being sarcastic on this point. Chewing their crayons and masturbating like drug crazed lab monkeys would entail higher intellect. No plan B exists. Or plan C. Run the alphabet thusly. No Hero is on back order.
